Frosty mornings, deep snowbanks, and snowflakes dancing under the village lights \u2013 pure winter wonderland. All that\u2019s missing are purple cows grazing on green pastures, and we\u2019d be living in an Alpine fairytale.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well\u2026 it is winter, so the cows are tucked away, and in Westendorf, someone apparently ordered \u201csunshine and +5\u00b0C\u201d by accident. Honestly? I wasn\u2019t mad about it! It was actually the perfect winter \u2013 especially if you\u2019re learning to snowboard and expecting your butt to meet the snow more often than your board meets the edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was our shared winter mission: the first steps on a snowboard. Okay, more like the first falls. Gabi, as always, has this natural talent \u2013 whatever she steps on, she rides like a pro. Me? Let\u2019s just say a few hard landings were enough to make me reconsider my life choices. Sideways, backwards, sideways again\u2026 and I knew: I\u2019m sticking to what I know \u2013 skis. And the only board I\u2019ll be holding is the one I use to chop veggies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snowboarding? I\u2019ll leave that to the brave and flexible. Gabi became a fan after her very first ride. I became her personal cheerleader from the sidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
